If you love poetry you must read the Spanish poet, Garcia Lorca. His poetry is both very literate and extremely touching. Try to get a bi-lingual volume and read it in the Spanish for the exquisite sound of the words as well as in English. Lorca was killed during the Spanish civil war as a young man, a very sad loss to poetry.

Lorca is probably my favorite poet, and was a good friend of Dali's so, of course I enjoy this book. The edition I have is actually the complete works of Lorca, but could not find the right edition on shelfari. Some of my favorite Lorca poems come from the time period when he was a student in New York at Colombia. Overall, he is an incredible poet, and his early death was a shame.

This is one of my favorite books and like to keep it around with me all the time. I like to imagine what it would've been like to visit New York for the first time during the depression era or what his days were like in Cuba. My favorite of course is 'Llanto por Ignacio Sanchez Mejias'. If anyone is interested, there is a movie you should watch called "The Dissappearnce of Garcia Lorca". The actor who plays Lorca is Andy Garcia. The films begins with Lorca in prison and his first monologue is this poem. I think Andy did a good job in capturing the aguish and pain.

I've read this book several times and translated most of its poems into Farsi. It's a very good selection of Lorca's poems so you can find deep feelings of the poet during his short lifetime.

I LOVE Lorca. I really do. The mezcla of symbolism drives me up a tree, looking for every single meaning, every sentiment behind each turn of phrase.
