  • Tyrell: An African-American teen living in a homeless shelter with his mom who wants to do things "right" and not follow in his father's footsteps to prison.
  • Novisha: Tyrell's 14 year old girlfriend. Her family likes Tyrell and they feel bad and try to help his family as much as they can.
  • Jasmine: A friend Tyrell makes at the homeless shelter, she's abandoned by her sister who's her guardian.
  • Troy: Tyrell's little brother who Tyrell believes is wrongly placed in Special Ed courses
  • Ms. Jenkins: Novisha's (Tyrell's girlfriend) mother. Ms. Jenkins keeps a nice home for Novisha and believes that her child is very good. Ms. Jenkins looks out for Tyrell and tries to provide for his family when she's able.
