“Rising is about a woman name Symone who grew up with her drug addicted mother in the projects. Symone grew up eating bread and water and seeing people get shot or killed was the norm for her. Symone didn't have the usual role of a child. Her role consisted of cleaning up behind her mother after she got sick from drug binging, cleaning and cooking. It was like she was the mother and her mother was the daughter. After her mother dies, she is adopted by a wealthy white family. Moving in a house that is as big as her neighborhood she use to live in is like a dream to Symone. But everything that glitters isn't always gold.
Although this story was very interesting and it was by one of my favorite authors I felt like it didn't have a solid storyline. The story seem to be all over the place and a little rushed. This was my least favorite story by Darnella Ford and I've read all of her books. She's a very talented author but this story was lacking a little too much for it to be a pageturner.”
