Shameless and fearless!Madonna knows how to shock the world and that was the purpose of this book. She is a true artist because she used here photography and music to express herself and her "dreams".

one of my favourite coffee table books ever. as a feminist, ive toyed with the idea as to whether or not this book is positive for women. the conclusion i made is that while it exhibits all the traits of pornography and erotic photography, it stands alone in that it is not overbearingly sexual, and it does not aim to tell women how to look or behave. it is an entirely personal account of sexuality, which i respect. the photography is amazingly done, gorgeous. although i do love the imagery, i do acknowledge that it is not particularly feminist, but non the less interesting and beautifully done.

For all the hype, this book was disappointing. While much of the concept definitely pushes the envelope, the over-all effect is very contrived.

well what can i say, this for me was the must have book of 1992! It was voyeuristic fun for me, and of course in utter rebellion I was tempted to leave this book on the coffee table. I think at the time America, was desperately trying to pull it's cover up. As an incest survivor, with little to no family validation, I think exploitive as it may seem, we as a culture have to shed these moralistic, shame based ideas, and discuss, raw sexuality, in a forum, that makes it okay to be vulnerable and yet empowered. Madonna did that, and despite all those who threw tomatoes, I think she did a great service, to many people, by her courage! And Praise God Jamie Lee Curtis is posing nude at her age, we need to get over our ageism as well.

The sheet metal covers and metal spiral binding make reading the book difficult. But it looks magnificent and I still have the foil wrap it came in. Controversial and avant garde, with rough paper and grainy photos. I'm not sure whether grainy photos is a good thing or a bad thing considering the images. But I enjoyed the experience.
