  • Comfort Snowberger: A happy, free-spirited, ready-to-serve kind of girl who works with her whole family at a funeral home. She is very close to her family (especially Dismay, her dog) and is very creative in her writing.
  • Peach Shuggars: Comfort's annoying little cousin who always ruins the funerals.
  • Declaration Johnson: Comfort's best friend who starts to grow more and more distant.
  • Uncle Edisto: Comfort's deceased great uncle. He was an optimist and a great friend to all who loved him.
  • Aunt Florentine: Comfort's decreased great-great aunt who was also a great cheery spirit in the Snowberger family. She loved lavender and working at the funeral home, especially in the gardens.
  • Tidings Snowberger: Comfort's older brother who's 15 and drives around the tractor.
  • Dismay: The Snowberger's family dog who is especially close to Comfort.
