Collecting Peepshow's #11-#14, Spent chronicles the various obsessions of Joe Matt and how he tries to deal with them. The pornographic tapes (custom edited 60tapes each running 8hours), masturbation bouts (once creates a record of 20times in 6&1/2 hours), collecting Gasoline Alley strips (everything between 1921-1951 and beyond)....
One is completely bowled over by the intimate details of his lifestyle. If one is to believe that it is completely autobiographical, then one cannot help but admire the honesty he brings to his work. There is something perversely addictive about Peepshow that makes one want to re-read the story again and again. Maybe its the accurate portrayal of a person's battle with his obsessions that lets one to easily relate to book.
“Shocked by Joe's sexuality, but also fascinated and definitely amused, I found this graphic novel overall lots of fun. Why do I feel strange for liking it? Perhaps because Mr.Matt is so honest about his personality. How often do we get to know what really is going on inside some guys hypothalamus? Also liked the references to two of my other favorite authors.”
