“I've read this writer's series backwards and have only just got to her first novel. Apart from the obvious Miss Marple feel to village life, there's enough eccentricity and de;lightful pen portraits to keep one engaged. A pleasant way to pass the time.”

“A who-done-it, based in a quaint Canadian town. Lots of characters, lots of small town charm, lots of little stories. Good descriptions, and enough clues give you can work along with the crime. Will go and read more of this series when I am in the mood for a slow paced brain teaser. ”

While she was killed with an arrow during hunting season, Gamache thinks something else is going on. Three Pines is a close community and Janes’s friends struggle with the knowledge that one of them could be a murderer. Could it be Jane’s niece Yolanda whom Jane has not talked to in years, or a trio of young men whom Jane interrupted while vandalizing a local restaurant owned by a gay couple? There are many secrets in this small town. A great mystery.

I really enjoyed the character study and the setting. I've already checked out the second title and hope to start it soon.”

And I wrote this review on my blog before reading the comparison elsewhere! The reader wants to jump into her stories and live in her creation. I have ever paperback in the Armand Gamache series and I will buy every book she writes. I have to pace myself so as not to read them too quickly and run out of Three Pines fiction!”
