- Will: The main character only has one true friend named Chester they split up Will going to the center of the earth and Chester to the surface.
- Chester: Will's best friends currently on surface.
- Elliot: Will's newest friend and partial love interest.
- Dr.Burrows: Wills father an anti-social archaeologist.
- Drake: Drake is one of the topsoilers determined to kill the styx. Used to be a electrician, was abducted by the styx for nightvision specs.
- Eddie: A retired Styx Limiter who is currently working with Drake to save his daughter Elliot.
- Rebecca's: The Rebbeca's are two twin styx. They pretended to be will's sister and are highly dangerous.
- Martha: An obsessive widow who doesn't like Chester having outside contact.
- Mrs.Burrows: Worked with Drake. Will's mother, and currently being taken care of by one of the citizens of the underground society.
