• Emma Vaile: The main character. She can talk to ghosts. Her parents leave her alone constantly, and she has an older brother name Max who she never sees.
• Bennett Stern: Emma's brother's friend and her guardian who she is in love with.
• Coby: Emma's "boyfriend" and friend. They go to school with each other. He is the football quarterback.
• Harry Harrison: Emma's friend from school. He is a huge gossiper!
• Original Bennett Stern (called 'Stern'): Bennet Stern's ancestor who killed Emma Vaile. They were in love.
• Neos: An evil spirit like thing. Was a ghostkeeper...then killed himself to gain more power. He is connected to Emma.
• Original Emma Vaile: Emma Vaile's ancestor who was killed by the original Bennet. She was one of the greatest ghost keepers in the history of ghost keeping.
• Nicholas: A little ghost boy who lives around the house and is Emma's friend.
• Anatole: The French cook who is a ghost at the house.
• Celeste: A french maid who works in the house. She is also a ghost
• Martha: She can contact ghosts. She also took care of Bennett and helps people with ghost powers. She now takes care of and trains Emma.

• Natalie: A girl Emma met at school who talked her into having a party while her parents were away.
• Jared: A guy Emma has a crush on at school.
• Sara: Coby and Harry are friends with this gorgeous smart girl who later befriends Emma as well.

• Ghostkeeper: essentially someone who sees ghosts, most only have one ability: to compel, to dispel, to communicate etc. But some rare Ghostkeepers have more than one ability. Some use signs to enhance their power. Ghostkeepers cannot be romantically entangled with another Ghostkeeper unless the want to lose their powers. The less powerful Ghostkeeper will lose their power to the stronger one.
