The father is a scion of the inventor of Bakelite, the mother is middle-class but ambitious and the son is gay. Father soon separates from wife, leaving son in her care. Mischief ensues and the whole situation is tragic. All this is told through quotes from family friends and acquaintances, which gives a good overview of how these people were seen by all those around them. If it weren't true, you would hesitate to make this kind of thing up, it is so stereotypical. Quite intriguing and a real window on how idle rich people live.”
