Amy Masterson decides to find her mother's biological mother after her mother dies. She leases her biological great-grandmother's house from her biological grandmother without their knowledge. She offers to pack her great-grandmother's belongings and is able to read her great-grandmother's journals. She pieces together parts of her history and eventually discovers wihy her mother was put up for adoption. Meanwhile, her estranged husband is coping with his separation from his wife and daughter. He also begins to look into his past and his separation from his father when he was 17. Barbara Davila, Amy's biological grandmother, is coping with her son's heart issues, and Amy's new neighbor is falling in love.
