A truly beautiful book showcasing the amazing talent of Bernini. His work in sculpture is simply breathtaking and the photos seem to do justice to his talent. After seeing the close-ups of his cloth and hair work, it's hard to believe he's working in marble.

Beautiful picutres. the first book I have read of Witkover and given his acadamic reputiation, I was hoping for a little more insight into the sculpture. What is there in the main text is fine albeit too brief. The material in the catalog did not help me understand or appreciate Bernini. I was hoping for more.
