I enjoyed this excursion into the Laos countryside as well as the background of the pre-revolutionary take over. Those caves sound amazing. As much as I enjoy Dr. Siri's glimpses into the supernatural, I had a hard time with the "Disco" of the title - I think he's more likely to ask questions about things instead of just accepting what he's hearing.

It's official I'm in love with Dr. Siri, granted he is a few years older than me, but I can't help it, he's just such a warm, wise, wonderful character with such a devilish sense of humor!

This is the third book in the series by Colin Cotterill they really do seem to be getting better which each new book, and that's saying quite a lot because the first book was excellent!

The mystery was very well done and kept me guessing until the very end when all is revealed and there is the story of one of the main character's journey in this book that is sad and awe inspiring and I just couldn't stop reading until all the plot lines were revealed and resolved.

I cannot wait to get the next book in the series!

Even in the third book of the series, I still love the writing and the characters!

Dr. Siri and his nurse Diuti have gone North to look into the death of a man who was found in cement. Cubans and black magic sure involved. The morgue attendant I'd kidnapped by the Judge who feels he shouldn't be working at the morgue.

Another good read from Laos and Dr. Siri. I liked this book better that Thirty-Three teeth. I think it is because I'm starting to really bond with the three main charactors. Mr Geung - the mortuary helper who also has down syndrome had a stronger role in the story line. We also learned more about Dr Siri's nurse Dtui and how intelligent she really is. I'm looking for to my next peak at the life of Dr. Siri.

Third in the Dr. Siri Paiboun mystery series, "Disco for the Departed" again takes the doctor and his nurse/protege Dtui to the northern provinces of Laos. Again, the shaman-possessed doctor manages to commune with the dead to solve a murder. At first, the inclusion of ghost story material makes this series a bit strange, but as you understand the part this plays in the village cultures, it becomes a little more palatable and the humor - both live and dead - is wonderful.

I really like this series. What a mystery this one was! This time out, Dr. Siri didn't just dream about his case as a way to commune with the dead. This time he was actually possessed - but not in a bad way. Nurse Dtui takes a major role, she just keeps getting better and better. Then there is the side story of Mr. Geung.

Well-written and a very interesting read. The characters and context ring true for the period, with parallels to other post-revolutionary contexts.
