If you’re the Colonial Defence Forces (CDF) you make a body for the job. And the good news is if the mind doesn’t take you have a genetically enhanced new solider. It’s a win/win...” see full review » see other reviews » |

Lots of action and very good characterization for this type of SF. It didn't seem to be quite up to the standard of the first book of the series, but it's definitely a very good read.”

In fact, I flew through it with pleasure and wonder and was thoroughly engaged.
I loved the emphasis on choices we make which make us human...or at least moral, in the case of the aliens. I was genuinely moved by the soldiers ability and inability to be corrupted by terrible acts.
The main character is quite compelling; I am always thrilled when I can be re-introduced to characters who overlap from other books.
There are surprises, good and bad, and wrongs and rights that are just mysterious enough to leave the reader wondering. Good plot twists and a very satisfying ending.
I think it is safe to say I'm becoming quite the Scalzi fan....”

Nicely done identity crises, a good villain with obscure motives that when explained actually make sense. Nice to see the wider view of the union as well. Instantly one of my favourites”
