“Percy Darling, the titular character, is a man in his early 70's who wasn't expecting many changes in his life. That was before his daughter, Clover, split with her husband and moved back to open a preschool in Percy's old barn.
At first annoyed by the invasion of his privacy, Percy soon comes to appreciate the change as it introduces many new people into his social sphere. One of those new people is Sarah, the adoptive mother of one of the children in the preschool. Percy thought his love life was over, but Sarah doesn't take long to change his mind.
This novel is interesting and perfectly enjoyable. The story kept me reading but there wasn't a character for me to really relate to. I found myself, like Percy, surveying the actors in this novel with thinly veiled disdain most of the time. A good book, but nothing spectacular.”
“Intelligence, humor, sharp insight, really well-written.”Andy S wrote this review Sunday, October 13, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“This was a nice story with complex characters and a setting I could easily visualize. Percy, a long-time widower, allows a preschool to take over his barn. He starts a relationship with a woman who ends up getting cancer. His brilliant grandson ends up falling into the world of eco-terrorists. He has to deal with his older, scatter-brained daughter. In the mix is also Celestino, and illegal immigrant with big dreams. There is not set resolution to the story, but it was an enjoyable read. ”Julie H wrote this review Saturday, October 5, 2013. “This is the story of a widower (imagine that) who hasn't dated since his wife passed 30 years prior, his two daughters - a grounded doctor and a flighty preschool teacher, his pre-med grandson and his activist roommate, and a host of other minor characters and how their paths cross.......this is the first book I've read by Glass, and to be honest, it took me a while to get through. I absolutely loved the character development, however, the plot/subplots grew a bit cumbersome for me and made the book drag on a bit. Not a bad summer read, but not necessarily one I would read again. ”Stephanie B. wrote this review Monday, July 1, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Loved this book. It has a lot of characters so often it's hard to keep them straight. Percy Darling is a great character. He is charismatic and wonderful. Great read! ”Stephanie Laurino wrote this review Thursday, May 9, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Really enjoyed this. Seemed like the female author captured the male characters thinking very well.”Kellie P wrote this review Tuesday, March 12, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Loved this book, esp. the main character; what a hoot. The ending was a little weak compared to the rest of the story but not too bad.”What A Dish! wrote this review Sunday, February 17, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
