“House rules is an autobiography about a girl growing up in a house with her sister and mother and father. He father is extremely controlling of her life to the point where it is mentally abusive. Her mother is under his control and brainwashed by his authority. Her sister was more or less ignored by her father and all of his attention is put on his oldest daughter Rachel.

This book was extremely good and the fact that it was a true story made it even better. You really feel for Rachel and what she is going through. It was sad to think that stories like this exist but a valuable lesson can be learned from reading this book. ”

“At first it was so sad, then interesting, and then a happy ending! I love stories pertaining to teenage girls although this one was very sad because it was bout an innocent teenage girls being abused and tormented by their utterly horrible father”

“In the book, House Rules by Rachel Sontag, the main character, Rachel, tells the story of growing up with an abusive father. She tells an honest story of struggle and inner-conflicts. Her critical father would spend hours late at night telling her how a terrible person she was. He would humiliate and hurt her in any ways he could. The mother was determined to have a perfect family so she ignored the abusive relationship as much as she could. This story isnt about self-pity but more of growth and courage.

The way Rachel responds to her father's actions is interesting in the story because eventually she makes her own decisions and reaches acceptance. Her father was over controlling of her until she reached to the point when she was making her decision of where to go to college. He forced her to go be studying at a college she did not want to go to but instead she made her choice to move on from what her father wanted to what she wants. She worked several jobs and moved in with several roommates. Rachel shows a non-giving up effort to become what she wants not what her father wants.”

“ The book House Rules, By Rachel Sontag, was a really good book, which had many details, put into it. I would really recommend this book not just because it’s good, but because so many emotion was put into it which made the main idea show up more. Once I started to read this book, I put myself in Rachel’s shoes seeing how if I was to live her life what would I have done. This book to me was pretty sad because I don’t think anyone should live like that especially when you’re really young. When I kept reading, I built up anger because when I heard all this stuff happened to Rachel it made me just go in the book and help her. My favorite part of the book would probably the end because that is when Rachel expresses her feelings on everything. If I were to rate this book, I would probably rate it 5 stars. I would pick this rating because the imagery of the book was really good; especially the writing style. One of the best things about this book is probably it being a memoir of the author.”
