“An okay book. It was about a girl called Plum who was a very self conscious girl. She went through alot of changes because she couldn't accept herself for who she was. She changed her name, starved herself and let her friends pierce her ears. There was also alot of scandal and betrayl. ”m-zy wrote this review Thursday, December 1, 2011. “A little slow and not the dynamic characters I thought would be in the story. All in all, a little disappointed. ”Angela W wrote this review Wednesday, October 12, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Wow... I was amazingly surprised by this book and that pleases me most of all! To be surprised!
My first perception of the book is that it is about a 14 yo girl struggles. Indeed, it is that and more. Right off the bat, I could feel the poignant pains that I, myself, felt when I was of that age. It wasn't really that bad now that I looked back but maybe it was that bad when I was going through it. This is what Plum "Aria" Cowly is going through - "growing pains".
Plum struggles to fit into her 'chosen' group of friends and her body image. She sought strength and courage from her horde of treausres then found help from an unexpected corner however things are not what they seem...
This is the first book of [author:Sonya Hartnett] I have picked up and my appreciation for her has just completely shot out the roof. I do have difficulty in deciding whether to classify this book as a coming of age / young adult type of book as most of the content is, there are approximately 20% of it which I would not like my child/ren (maybe one day) to read at 14. If I do, it would be under strict parental guidance. So, parents beware: read it first and prepare to "guide"!”

“There is something in the way this author writes that just draws you in. The subjects of her books are fairly ordinary life situations, but her prose and character development just leave me mesmorised. This is the story of Plum, a seemingly normal teenager struggling with the all that the teenage years bring, when she is suddenly and unknowingly thrown into some very adult complications. I really enjoyed this story.”Rachel L wrote this review Thursday, May 5, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Plump is trying to figure her life in Australia's 80's. The ambivalence at the end makes this book a hard read.”Inma Leonard wrote this review Friday, April 8, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
