“I couldn't get into this one. I didn't find Shirra particularly likable nor did I think she was anything special. I found her quite weak and indecisive. She couldn't really do much for herself.
Shirra is a PI and not a very good one, her business is on the verge of failing so she takes a ridiculously dangerous job that she knows she shouldn't take but needs the money so she does. She ends up getting stuck in a contract relationship with a vampire, but not before convincing her friend to illegally change the contract so that Shirra can protect herself. I don't know why but that just didn't sit right with me.
Then the client she was originally hired by is killed and everyone is gunning for her, although I'm not sure why since she was hired to find an object that the vampire Royce has but since Shirra didn't actually have the object why would anyone be after her?
I just kept reading and expecting something worth while to happen and by the time I got to page 200 I felt like nothing was going to happen I sort of skimmed the rest to the end. I didn't get much out of this which was surprising because it's so highly recommended. I'm sure fans of UF with P.I.'s will get a kick out of this but it just didn't turn my crank.”
