The story takes place around Amos McGee, who is a zookeeper. He takes care of each of the animals at the zoo according to their individual needs- for example an owl who is afraid of the dark. All the animals quirks are cute, and least what you would expect for the aninal. Then one day Amos gets sick, and the animals come to take care of him. This is an adorable story about friendships, big and small. It is wondeful for young kids, but I also used it to teach theme and author's purpose with 8th graders, and they loved it too.”

His animal friends at the zoo he works at have so many different activities to do in order to spend time with him. One day, though, Amos wakes up feeling terrible. He decides not to go to work, and spends his day in bed instead. His animal friends become worried about him, take the subway to visit him, and then carry out their normal routine with Amos in the comfort of his own bed. This book is one that is rich in pictures as well as bright and colorful. It could be used in the classroom to teach friendship, routine, and dependency. ”

This is a cute book that shows great friendship and how each relationship is different. There is a great meaning in the artwork within the book using color and lines to illustrate the contrast between health and stability and sickness and fragility. I would use this book in my classroom to discuss different relationships that we each have in our lives and to let the children have discussions about their friends and what they do together. ”

One day, he gets sick and all of the animals wonder where he is. They decide to go see him at his home and take care of him. The illustrations in this book portray the fade from happiness and stability and back again as Amos goes through his illness and then begins to get better. I would use this book to teach my students the importance of friendship and taking care of the people you love.”

Amos, the zoo keeper, always made time for his special animal friends. One day, when Amos isn't feeling well and can't go to work, all of his animal friends come to see him and offer him friendship and support.”

Amos, gets sick one day and he is not able to go to the zoo and have his daily routine with the animals. So instead the animals come to Amos. I feel like the quality of this book is very well done. There is such a good theme to this book. Children will be able to learn about the true meaning of friendship no matter what is going on in your life, if you are a good true friend you will never be alone, especially in times of need. ”

He plays chess with the elephant, runs races with the tortoise, sits with the penguin, loans his handkerchief to the rhinoceros, and reads stories to the owl. However, one day Amos doesn't feel well. When he doesn't go to work, his friends show how much they care about him too!
This delightful story deals with friendship, compassion, and caring for others. The book could be used as part of a study of friendship, showing that friends come in all shapes and sizes. It could also be used as part of a discussion of sick days--what do we do when we are home from school with a cold as well as what can we do to make others feel better when they are sick.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The story is charming and the illustrations are wonderful, winning the Caldecott Medal. While recommended for children in kindergarten through grade 2, I think children both younger and older would enjoy A Sick Day for Amos McGee. ”
