She has a styrofoam spirit, as my husband once claimed of me: she cannot be held under by trouble of any sort for long. Her journey is both amazing and delightfully tainted by her own ebouillent spirit and self-confidence. It is particulary interesting to note how her free spirit ideals, held too...

i HAD to read this book. isadora duncan & i share almost exactly the same name & an intense love for dance and for bringing the sass. most of her life story was really interesting, and you can tell isadora wrote this herself. which is why its not written THAT well. but it was published in 1927, and she was truly ahead of her time. she was the pioneer of modern dance, an early advocate for women's rights, and super scandalous—sex before marriage! see-through tunics! barefeet!

cons: name-drops artists ive never heard of too often and gets a litte tiresome with her "my art! an expression of the soul reaching to the heavens.." tirades.

(probably shouldnt read this book unless youre WAY into dance)

Fascinating insight into a unique lady and her colourful life
This woman could never be called boring, and so it was such a tragedy that her life was cut so short in a terrible accident. Her life was full of adventure and love and also great sadness
    A wonderful read

The story of a free spirit. Isadora Duncan's vision of what the Dance or the Art should be, her passions, her sorrows...her life.
Not a story written by a writer though.

She has a styrofoam spirit, as my husband once claimed of me: she cannot be held under by trouble of any sort for long. Her journey is both amazing and delightfully tainted by her own ebouillent spirit and self-confidence. It is particulary interesting to note how her free spirit ideals, held too rigidly as she gained more and more responsibility (e.g. as she adopted umpteen children) got in the way of her ultimate goals, and sometimes failed miserably, although she does not report it so. The manner in which she reportedly died - her flamboyant long scarf got caught in the wheels of her convertible, breaking her neck - is incredibly apropos to the way in which she lived. The real life of Isadora Duncan is as delightful and shocking as any fictional melodrama that can be watched or read.
