Liked It“I loved this book! It was so beautifully written and so descriptive that I felt I was on the ship along with the characters and part of their journey. |
“Powerful and poignant true account of a family in New England, the South and the Caribbean. Struggles of loyalties during the Civil War and through marriages. ”

It was repetitious and bland reading the same dilemma the captain's wife endureduntil nearly the end. Letters & facts didn't do it for me, although I was re-acquainted with racial relations prevalent during this period.”

Touching, exciting, fascinating.”
“This is a very interesting story about a young woman in pre and post-civil war times and her struggle to survive and conflicts with race. Much content is from actual letters to her family.”
