I had higher hopes for this book after seeing the movie trailer with all of its explosions and cool masks that the bank robbers wore. I expected the book to cover more of the bank robberies and interaction between the thieves. Instead, the book focused mostly on Doug and Agent Frawley's attraction to Claire Keesey. Chuck Hogan is a fine writer and the book is good. Unfortunately, it lags in areas where Hogan tries to nurture the relationship between the aforementioned characters. Also, this story focuses a lot on Doug's past and his struggle to determine his future. While I read the book--it took me forever to get through--I doubt I'd ever highly recommend it the way I do with Dennis Lehane's work.

Prince of Thieves is an amazing book that is a fast read and keeps your attention the whole time. The Plot line is original and inventive (a pro bank robber who falls for a hostige taken during one of his jobs) without being too far fetched as we follow the characters through struggles and conflicts both from the outside world and within themselves.

This book exceeded all my expectations. I was expecting lukewarm and got hot. So many book/movie deals have happened, I thought this was just one more. But I stayed up most nights unwilling to stop reading. I loved the descriptions of Boston's streets. What I really appreciated was the author never letting me down by artifice or cheapness in his presentation. The fog of despair and hopes abandoned swirling around the characters and influencing their every choice made a powerful impression upon me. I give this high marks in every category--a smart, savvy, contemporary drama complete with infatuation, cars, bars, and action.

I saw the movie first, then borrowed the book from a friend. Enjoying it, although not as much of a page turner I'm sure because I saw the movie first. Keep seeing handsome Ben Afleck in every page.

I thought this book was great. I enjoyed the characters, the setting and the storyline. You really feel for the character Doug and I found myself rooting for him. The only reason why I didn't give this book 5 stars is because I thought it was unlikely the FBI agent would try to date his witness.

I also went to see the movie and loved that, and dare I say I loved it more. I definitely liked the ending better in the movie.

Great story, wish I hadn't seen the cover, as it planted the actor's faces in my head.
