I have been an avid fan of the Ballad books, and looked forward to this one. I was sorely disappointed, it has to be the worst McCrumb book I have read. We are teased with the possibility of a back story on Nora Bonesteel, my most favorite of McCrumb's characters. Unfortunately there really isnt much of her in the book.

Instead we are treated to the over usage of adjectives as we see appalachia thru biased and opinionated yankee reporter's eyes and some uninteresting back story involving one of those reports and Japan (which has no point to the story in my opinion).

No part of me can say this book is good and I'm afraid it has ruined my opinion of the author giving her fans what we love
