My Girl is by Patricia Hermes based on the motion picture written by Laurice Elehwany. This book is about a girl named Vada and a boy named Thomas J. They are best freinds. Vada and Thomas J. are about to enter the sixith grade. It is summer when this story takes place. They are both eleven. Vada's father owns a funeral home. The buisness is runned out of thier basement. Vada's mother died when she was born, her grandma is like a mother to her. Sadly, her grandma has recently stopped talking. Vada and Thomas J. spend everyday together. Vada has a crush on her fifth grade teacher, Mr. Bixler. The funeral home needs someone to do the dead people's hair and makeup, so Vada's dad hires Shelly. Shelly lives in a RV. Shelly and Vada's father begin to get closer and closer and eventually begin to date. Vada learns about a class on poetry that Mr. Bixler. is teaching. She wanta to go to this class but her dad want give her the money. After figuring out where Shelly keeps her money she steals the thirty-five dollars she needs to pay for the class. Then she goes to the doctor thinking she has cancer in her throat. The docter assures her there is no cancer but Vada doesn't believe him. When she gets there she figures out it is a class for adults. She desides to stay. One day when Vada and Thomas J. go tree climbing in the forest she looses her mood ring. They go looking for it and end up getting chased by bees. They jump in a lake and don't get stung. Thomas J. is very allergic to bees. They go home and forget about the mood ring. The next day something happens, when Vada goes to the bathroom and has blood everywhere. She thinks the 'cancer' has spread while looking for her dad she runs into Shelly. Shelly informs her that it's not the cancer but it is her period. When Thomas J. comes over Vada tells him not to come back for another five days. It's the worst five days of her life she also learns her dad is marrying Shelly. When Thomas J. comes back the go to the lake, Vada asks is he has ever kissed anyone. She finds out that he hasn't so he tells him to practice kissing on his arm. She does the same. Then they kiss. Then Vada promises Thomas J. if she doesn't marry Mr. Bixler she will think of him. That night Thomas J. goes looking for the ring. Where the bees are. He gets stung several times. To find out if he survives read the book. My favorite part of the book is when Vada finally excepts her father's marrige. I recomend this book to anyone who likes sad books or books about friendship.

It's a wonderful cute story about two kids but the ending wasn't what I expected and felt teary-eyed at it's tragic ending but other than that there are some funny things which occur, some cute scenes between the two main characters and it's a nice book to read.
