‘Magician, Man and Beast’ is a mythic story of life and death. It is separated into three, philosophical parts to represent the trinity of life: youth, middle age and old age. As a spiritual journey, it represents birth, death and rebirth.
In the first book – Man: The Hero Within, we meet the main character in the prime of youth, that unique mix of innocence and arrogance. Here, in the first book, he makes common mistakes. He is foolhardy and ambitious and yet to learn about consequence … and, ultimately, the true joys of love.
The world around him reflects his innocence; it is yet to be marred by death, treachery and war. The second book – Beast: Psychic Odyssey is about facing your own demise, going back to the source, the existential prime. The third book – Magician: Charnel War is the reconciliation of the dualistic nature of man to supersede his inborn limitations.
There is a naivety and innocent sense of wonder to the first book, which is perfectly suited to the fantasy genre. Out of the three books, the first sticks closest to its fantasy origins. The next moves unashamedly into paranormal romance, the last proudly stands as an epic horror novel.
The writing style is slightly old-fashioned with a gothic lisp. This heavily ornamental style with its flamboyant flourishes of language, lends the darker aspects of the story a classic resonance. There is a feeling of familiarity, while the intense action and tightly-wound plot keep the story contemporary.
In summary, ‘Magician, Man and Beast’ is a sepulchral melodrama, traversing the ages. Revealed behind its words, are metaphors for the journey of life, shared by us all, as we venture into adulthood.

‘You stand at Deaths door … I invite you through to the other side.’
