- Ages 9-12 - A 11+. This series represents humanity at is best and worst. While somewhat violent, is also extremely positive. There are very strong, young role models in this series, who understand morality and reflect on moral dilemmas throughout the book. On exhibit is love, responsibility, caring, hard work, persistance, friendship, trust and spirit carrying the series and providing readers with characters they care for and even cheer for, throughout the story. On the other hand, so is greed, excess, corruption, hunger, poverty, slavery, as well as bloodshed and war. There are some scenes where blood and mortal injuries are described, and of course, several deaths. Likely far less than many video games. Today, most kids see these subjects in television shows, and video games, and while this does not justify them, it will mean that few kids will be shocked to read such details. In fact, this series mentioned blood and war, while also exploring the moral dilemma and character's feelings during each conflict, offering a chance for the reader to reflect on the scene. While there is some pretty deep psychological warfare and gory scenes, there
isn't too much detail given. There is no bad language in any of the trilogy books, including this one. In addition, there are no sexual references or scenes.
