Isabella Marlene is known around town as Teaspoon. She is being raised by her mom's ex-boyfriend because her mom left to persue her dream of being a movie star. Teaspoon is influenced and cared for by her mom's ex-boyfriend, her teacher, her Sunday school teacher, her Sunshine Sister, her neighbor, her neighbor's great-grandson, and the prostitutes on the corner. She naively speaks to everyone and takes their advice. She becomes very close to her Sunshine Sister and her neighbor's great-grandson, Charlie. She helps each person who cares for her as much as they help her. When her mother returns, she feels her life will change. It does, but not in the ways she thinks it will.
