Really good plot. You have no idea until the end how everything is linked together.

New Orleans detective Rick Bentz is recovering from an accident in a hospital when he smells the scent of gardenias, the same perfume that his first wife, Jennifer, wore. Opening his eyes he sees her in the doorway blowing him a kiss. But Jennifer died twelve years ago. Once released from the hospital Jennifer starts appearing unexpectedly while remaining at a distance. Rick follows a trail of information back to Los Angeles seeking answers into the unexplained appearance of Jennifer while trying to reassure his present wife, Olivia.

Maybe it’s because I listened to the audio version, but the story seemed overly long, with too many instances of Jennifer appearing, too many coincidences, too many unexplained happenings. By the time of the big revelation I knew the answer and when it came to the final disc I was wishing to story would finish. I haven’t read anything else by this author and I’m not sure I will.

A sure page turner, that will have you wondering if Rick Bentz is losing his mind with the recent visions of his belated wife........Or if something more sinister is at play.

This book had a lot of suspense, which kept me interested in finding out who the murderer really was. Was it Jennifer or was it some else?

This was my first experience reading a female horror/mystery author. I was pleased with Lisa Jackson’s writing for the most part, but some of the lines were over recycled in the book. There were definitely moments when I wanted to toss the book and begin another one, but there were also moments when I could not put the book down. It was kind of like walking on a hill with a blister - The walk started great, but I hated walking up the hill, but then was relieved when I got to the bottom. The book ended exciting.

Overall, it was an alright book. I will definitely give this author another read.

    Rating (1-5): 3.5

We've had some interest in Lisa Jackson at the library so I thought I would just try one of the books. I enjoyed the mystery but the characters didn't interest me as much as I thought they should. They seemed a little whiney and self absorbed. I'm not sure I care enough to pick up any more of the series. It was a nice diversion but there are so many other mystery/thriller/detective novels to read. Try Karin Slaughter instead.
