“I love vampire lit. and I love Lincoln, and while I enjoyed some of it, overall, I was disappointed. The end didn't work for me at all.”

This time the author of Pride & Prejudice and Zombies takes his wit and adds a little bit of a twist to the life and times of the 16th President of the US. It seems that many of the deaths in Lincoln's life and issues with slavery were really due to vampires. Now it makes more sense. Abe is first introduced to vampires when his mother dies. Doctors think it might be typhoid or some other illness, but it was because she was bitten by a vampire. From that point on, Abe becomes the 19 century's greatest vampire hunter. Abe meets a "good" vampire, named Henry Sturges, who teaches Abe how to really fight vampires and sends him on a lifelong quest. I thoroughly enjoyed the interweaving of actual history with the vampire stories, including why Abe broke off his initial engagement to Mary Todd, the deaths of his 3 sons and much of the reason for slavery and the civil war. It even goes up to and including his assassination by John Wilkes Booth. This book was not as funny as Pride & Prejudice and Zombies, but then the source material wasn't either. Now I have to read some more about the history of Abe Lincoln.”

Great if you enjoy reading history as it's written much like a history book, and not as a story.”
