I read the book Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel. In this book Shade, a silverwing bat tries to find his silverwing tribe after being swept away by a wind.
Shade, a silvering bat that was one season year old was always taunted by Chinook and his friends. They taunted him by calling him names like runty since he was the runt of his litter. So one day he challenged Chinook to see the sun rise. It was dangerous since there was rule made that said if a bat sees the light of day and it was sighted by an owl it was to be hunted and killed. Chinook took the challenge and they both went. Chinook chickened out and left. But shade stayed, saw the sun and almost got killed by an owl. The owls soon came back for revenge and burned down the tree. But the tribe found a new tree and is happy.
Soon, hibernuculum comes and Shade’s mother sings Shade a song map just in case he got lost. Then they begin on their journey. The Shade gets swept away by the wind that is near sea and he lands on a boat. He woke up and flew to a near by island where he meets Marina, a brightwing who accompanies him to hibernuculum. On the way to hibernuculum, Shade meets Zephyr who heals him and advises Shade and Marina. Goth and Throbb, two cannibal bats almost killed him and Marina but instead they both get striked by lightening. Turning Throbb to ash and burning Goth’s flesh. Soon, Shade gets to hibernuculum with Marina and they were just in time to get there.
