When western medical practitioners attempt to educate and integrate scientific and modern applications to the common and native folk, one needs to remember that the Philippines is a culturally diverse country rich in traditions and beliefs (the population speaks 170+ languages and dialects from its varied regions).

These traditions and beliefs may not be that Rational but they are highly Ethical. They reflect the historic evolution of values, such as Hardwork, Respect, Loyalty, Simplicity, Cooperation, Honor, and Justice. These timeless values are very important as there are many things to learn and reaffirm in this book. One of them is rediscovering that Filipinos have a concept of "Karma"--- it's called "Gaba" from the Visayas Region.

This is a very unique book by a Filipino Medical Anthropologist (Michael Tan) and I am proud of owning a copy.
