“While attending a meeting of medical examiners, Dr. Maura Isles runs into an old school friend who invites her on a cross-country skiing trip with his friends. But a sudden snowstorm and bad GPS directions leave them stranded on the side of a mountain. Searching for shelter, the group stumbles onto a remote village named Kingdom Come. But the town seems to have been abandoned. Meals are still sitting on the table, vehicles in their garages, and a pet is dead. As Maura and her friends wait out the storm and hope for rescue, they realize someone is lurking outside, watching their every move.
I love books where a person is stranded in extreme circumstances, surviving by their wits. In this story we have that plus the mystery of what happened to the residents of Kingdom Come. There is a lot of suspense. How will Maura survive the blizzard? Who left footprints outside of the window in the house they are living in? I couldn't put this book down and stayed up very late to finish it. My rating: 5 Stars.”
