A Bible, especially with scholarly footnotes and good maps -- like the New Oxford Annotated Bible or the Harper's Study Bible, or the Life Application Bible-- should be on your book shelf for daily reading.

As many others have said, this is an invaluable edition for anyone to own, even those not studying religion. The annotations are helpful and translation is superb.

Hey, it's the Word of God, what can I say. And it is a God who doesn't have to be male. There is inclusive language throughout this version (finally!).
This edition has very many useful notes on the text, for greater clarification of contexts.
    Do read it.

Just because. This one I've been working at for over a year now. Great cure for insomnia, and fascinating to read all the oft-quoted excerpts in context, with historical and scholarly annotations.

My favorite Bible. But mine is an older edition - the one I purchased while in college at Augustana. It was the version required for religion classes there. I've used it ever since. It lost its cover and Kathy Dean's brother, David Richardson and his wife Elizabeth rebound it for me about 5 years ago.
