Someone let me borrow it and I don't think I returned it. Anyway - Rob Bell writes very well and makes this a good read for people who need a few more answers or a little more direction.”

Yes | No“A good read from an author who enthusiastically does not apologize for being a follower of Jesus. Other mainstream Christians might cringe at his theology, Bible scholarship and world view but I do not. His philosophical brethren are Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan, both authors whom I admire. In “Velvet Elvis”, I particularly enjoyed Bell’s historical context of the scriptures and his emphasis on expressing, through art and music, the Creative (capitalization intended) force. To take issue with Bell is to ignore that, since the first century, we (Followers) have always been “making it up as we went along” and trusting in the guidance of the Spirit. I pray that Christians continue to “make it up” and that we will, hopefully and providentially, get most of it right. ”

His book reads like he's speaking right in front of you.”
