Hannah Richards tries to establish a Dressmakers business in small town Coventry. J.T. Tucker believes it is superficial and a sin. Sparks fly between the two but love eventually blooms between two couples and the adventure is surprising.

  • Jericho "J.T." Tucker: Owner of the livery who thinks Hannah's business is for the self-indulgent vain woman. Has a problem with it because his mother left for a rich man who could buy her what she wanted.
  • Hannah Richards: Dress maker who falls in love with Jericho and convinces him there is respect in her profession and that her gift of fashion was given to her by God.
  • Cordelia Tucker, Delia: Delia is the sister of JT. She's the town baker.
  • Warren Hawkins: The storekeeper's son; was considered an outcast growing up because of a birthmark on his face.
  • Tom: Livery helper, JT's assistant.
  • Daniel "Danny" James: Louisa's son who delivers wood to Hannah.

  • Emily: Hannah's sister who lives back east. She's the nurturer of the family and is expecting a baby. Hannah's mother lives with her.

  • Independent Women in the 1800's: Hannah's father died when she was young and her mother worked in a cocoa factory and wanted her daughter to learn a trade in case she didn't marry or her husband died and left her to support herself. Her mother saw her talent for sewing and found an apprenticeship for her. Their were not many occupations for her but she had a talent.
