An excellente narrative. It's so well written that you can fell the heat, the humidity and the chlorophyll smell, while reading, just like you are inside of the scenary.
One of the best novel from Portugal.

an incredible story of the Portuguese colony of São Tomé adn Príncipe off the African Coast at the end of the Monarchy. The sotry of a lonely, promiscuous aristocrat, appointed by the king to be governor of an even lonlier place, where he finds his destiny.
I was very impresed with the historical novel of well-painted characters, showing the decadence f the last days of European colonialsm in the world: spanning India and Africa. It is also a profound meditation on lonliness.
