Well, the Pulitzer committee seems to be consistent. This is another example of a writer with talent who seems more interested in displaying her wordsmithing prowess rather than tell a good stary with a good message. Her writing frequently made me come out of the world she created to take note of the writing itself - kind of like a basketball throwing down a dazzling dunk while his team is being beaten soundly. The dunk may be nice, but I'd rather see a good game and my team win. Egan's writing was the main attraction here, but the novel fell short of my overall expectations. I had trouble keeping track of the characters from night to night, so I am sadly certain that I will not remember much about this book in a month or two. And the central thrust of the novel seems to be that people grow up and change - not exactly profound stuff.
