- Pamela Mitford: Down-to-earth and quieter than her siblings, she was most at ease while living in the country in the company of her dogs.
- Diana Mitford: The acknowledged beauty of the family and outspoken fascist.
- Unity Mitford: Best known for her passionate support of the Nazi regime and her close friendship with Adolf Hitler.
- Jessica 'Decca' Mitford: A lifelong communist and campaigner for civil rights, she is most famous for her investigative journalism and controversial books.
- Deborah 'Debo' Mitford: The youngest daughter and most traditionally 'successful' daughter. She devoted much of her time to restoring Chatsworth, the Devonshire family home to its former grandeur. The only sister to remain in steady contact with all of her sisters throughout her life.
