“A great book that everyone should set aside time for, and should keep in mind daily. I loved the visceral language, the entertaining circumstances, and the humanist views of education and taking oneself too seriously. The friar = the original inspiration for Chuck Norris? I read baby Gargantua's scientific exploration of ass wiping, his poem "In Shiting", and his logic concerning shit to an intro. to education class I was taking as a piece of art that inspired my teaching philosophy. Nobody laughed, and they all avoided me after class. ”

A funny thing was said in relationship with this book during my one years stay in Germany. There the English literature professor said he has bought the book, but is saving it for some time when he is old. He would then take it off the shelf, and read it slowly and carefully, as he would have nothing else to do. He also said it is such a book one cannot read while one is swept away by the modern and ultra speedy life.”

It would seem the author has a fixation on excrement and where it comes from. Started out as funny, but beginning to get monotonous. I'll give it another hundred pages, but I'm thinking it's not going to get any better. ...couldn't do it. Got through chapter 46. Perhaps my reading tastes will change. I'll give it a second chance... someday.”
