  • Rumo: Wolperting (a dog-like creature).The main character. Both interesting and badass.
  • Volzotan Smyke: Shark grub who teaches Rumo.
  • Yukobak: Upper-class Helling distantly related to the royal Gornabs. Short and scrawny. Has albino-white skin and two small horns. Closet revolutionary and painter.
  • Ribble: Homunculi born full grown from alchemical Mothersoup. Belongs to lowest caste of Hel. Has the head and pincers of a crab and legs like a chicken. Always wears a funnel on his head and a small barrel around his body. Yukobak's servant and best friend. Secretly a revolutionary and poet.
  • Rala: Beautiful girl Wolperting. Rumo's sweetheart. Not afraid of death.
  • Friftar: Add a description of this character.
  • Ushan Delucca: Wolperting. Best swordsman in Zamonia. Named after a type of rum. Teaches at the school in Wolperting. Extremely weather sensitive.

  • Harra of Midgard: Teacher at Wolperting school. One of the few Wolpertings to reject fighting. When he was a boy, he was involved in a skirmish between two rival gangs of schoolboys. While play fighting he swung his wooden sword too hard and left a notch in the skull of his classmate Jowly of Gloomberg (the current Wolperting Mayor). He vowed to never pick up a sword again.
  • Gornab: Gornab the Ninety-ninth. The demented king of the Netherworld.

  • General Tick-Tock: Evil commander of the Copper Killers. Obsessed with death.
  • Princess Daintyhoof: A young roe deer. Originally a human child whom a perfidious Hazelwitch had transformed into a deer and abandoned on the edge of the Great Forest.Fell in love with Prince Sangfroid, a big black wolf that was a human under a spell. According to legend, gave birth to a son that was neither deer nor wolf, but a wolf cub with two little horns - the first Wolperting.
