  • Mrs. Mariana Daltry: Kate's stepmother, formerly Kate's father's mistress, she took over the household after his death
  • Victoria Daltry: Kate's illegitimate half-sister, Victoria is the beauty of the season. She has three dogs that are more the size of rats (currently called Caesar, Coco and Freddie), but a bitten lip prevents her from going in person with Algie to meet his uncle
  • Katherine "Kate" Daltry: Kate is an orphan whose step-mother, on her father's death, dismissed most of the servants leaving Kate to run the household. Her half-sister Victoria needs the approval of her fiancee's uncle before getting married, and Kate must go disguised in her place
  • Algernon "Algie" Bennett, (Lord Dimsdale): Victoria's bethrothed and Gabriel's nephew; Slightly dim, Algie is deeply in love with Victoria and will go along with any scheme to get his uncle to consent to their marriage
  • Prince Gabriel Albrecht-Frederick William von Aschenberg of Warl-Marburg-Baalsfield: A younger son, Gabriel has been packed off to England by his older brother, along with all the other members of the family that don't conform to his brother's new-found religious beliefs where he must await his Russian bride
  • "Wick", Berwick: Gabriel's illegitimate half-brother and best friend who runs the household with an iron fist, and most of the time disapproves of Gabriel's actions, especially when they concern Kate
