“What a great story for Mencheres. Loved both characters, again. Ditto to what I said in my review of Frist Drop of Crimson. I just really enjoy reading these.”Monika R wrote this review Monday, October 21, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“I really enjoyed this book and seeing another side of Mercheres. I wasn’t a big fan of his in previous books but after this one I love him!
If I had one fault with the book is that it ended too abruptly for me.”
“Jeaniene Frost is a great writer and like most authors some books are just better than others. She’s wowed me a couple of times in her Night Huntress series and now she’s gone ahead and done it again with Eternal Kiss of Darkness. This was my first audio book experience and it was so good that I’m already listening to another one. I’m not entirely sure if my rating would be the same had I simply read this novel as is my usual habit. I’d like to think so but Tavia Gilbert’s narration was phenomenal so I can’t help but question if her voice helped sway my ranking a tad. Not that that’s a bad thing; I’m just curious.
Mencheres… RAAAR!! I’m so completely smitten with him after this book. In the series I found him a bit intimidating. Old and baddass would be accurate words to describe him but never sexy. Until now. His character has always been clouded in mystery in the Night Huntress series but this spin-off tells all. His origins are Egyptian, no real surprise there but who he actually was back when he was alive is a real jaw dropper! I enjoyed learning more about the wrongs that his deceased wife inflicted upon him and why. But, what I liked the most was seeing the cracks in his stone cold exterior. Mencheres’ feelings for Kira show him in a very different light. He’s no less scary but it was nice to find out that this ancient vamp’s heart isn’t black. Do NOT mess with his woman! He might be in love but that definitely doesn’t make him weak. Quite the contrary in fact!
Vlad *swoon*. Apparently my thoughts on this book are all related to the opposite sex. What can I say!? Frost sure knows what type of men I like! Dracula’s role in this story was a lot larger than I’d anticipated and this made me excessively happy. I ♥ Vlad. He’s good in a pinch so Mencheres called in a favor. As usual, he was his snarky self. Tavia does a great job of switching up her voice when reading dialogue for different characters. Her accents were really good too! Cat and Bones also make a brief appearance but it didn’t do much for me. Oh well, I’m sort of happy that this dynamic duo didn’t steal the spotlight away from Mencheres and Kira.
To date, Jeaniene hasn’t topped her famous Chapter 32 from One Foot In The Grave but I think she just bullseye’d it with Eternal Kiss of Darkness. Again, maybe I’m saying this partly because this is an audio book and there’s something naughty about having a sex scene read out loud to you but… DAMN! Eternal Kiss of Darkness is the whole package. It’s got kick ass fights, squelching lovin’ and a plot line that just won’t quit. I can’t WAIT until Once Burned is published. For those of you not in the know, Vlad’s getting his own spin-off! SQUEEEE!
P.S. This has to be one of the girliest reviews that I’ve ever written.”
“Loved this book! I really enjoyed learning more about Mencheres since much of his background had remained elusive until this book. Kira was a wonderful match for him and I felt she greatly added to the story. Although I enjoyed Spade's story with Denise, I was much more enamored with Mencheres and Kira. Looking forward to reading the next by Ms. Frost! ”JEK wrote this review Wednesday, July 10, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“I loved Mencheres' story! Hearing his history... especially about being a pharoah.. I am so glad he finally has someone and I was glad to finally learn what happened with him and Patra.. I also liked having more of Veritas. I wonder if she will be in future books. I also hope Gorgon comes back safely. I can't wait for Vlad's books.. I loved that he was in this.. and it showed how he cared for Mencheres... ”Tracyseb wrote this review Monday, February 18, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Having read the Night Huntress series, I was very interested in reading Eternal Kiss of Darkness because of the mysterious Mancheres.
Kira Graceling works as a private investigator and encounters Mancheres when she sees him being attacked by ghouls. Of course, she doesn't know he is a master vampire and the thugs attacking him are ghouls. Mancheres tries to read her mind and wipe her memory, but nothing works. He is also battling a severe case of ennui and apathy. His visions are gone except for one of creeping darkness that seeks to envelope him. He interprets this as it being time for him to die.
Mancheres is intrigued with Kira from the first - his inability to read her thoughts and manipulate her memory just add to her uniqueness.
I really enjoyed the beginning of this book. Kira feels a connection to Mancheres and even after he releases her she attempts to seek more information about him. She accepts the fact that he is a vampire very easily (perhaps a little too easily). It is her attempt to find Mancheres again that results in a confrontation with an enemy of Mancheres. This enemy, Radjedef, unfortunately is a Guardian of the Law and has harbored resentment for Mancheres for thousands of years. He is essentially a "dirty cop" of the vampires and is not above using all his dirty tricks to get rid of Mancheres.
I enjoyed Mancheres being disconcerted by Kira's inexplicable blocking of vampire mind control. He had flashes of humanity - humor, sadness, tenderness- not heretofore exhibited by him. I liked Kira. She was a decent human being whose loyalty and devotion to her sister, and her worries about her brother, Rick, made her seem real.
Where this fell apart was after Kira becomes a vampire. Her unexplained ability to "feel" things that will happen, to "know" or sense death mirror Mancheres abilities, but these abilities are never explained. What makes her able to withstand the green gaze of a vampire? Why is Mancheres unable to read her thoughts as a human? Why was he unable to wipe her memory of the vampire world?
Also, Kira accepted her change about as easily as she accepted that Mancheres is a vampire. The tension or conflict in this book was all about Mancheres' battle with Radjedef and not so much about Kira and Mancheres.
I also didn't care for the whole set-up ploy Rajedef orchestrates, and the resolution of that plot line felt confused and rushed. On the whole, I was disappointed by Eternal Kiss of Darkness. I felt Mancheres deserved a better story. ”
“Mencheres has not been one of my favorite characters through the Vampire Huntress Series, and knowing this has obviously made me reluctant to review this title. My foremost concern was that due to my bias I would not be able to review this title effectively. So, here is to one of many times that an incredible author has proven me entirely wrong. Frost takes this slightly shady character, and transforms him into a dedicated and companionate personality that will dissolve fans previous impressions. After many years of uncertainty, I found myself falling head over heals in love this newly developed character. What had always seemed a character of mystery is finally unfolded to allow readers a more in-depth look into his true self. Even more surprising, I was captivated and overwhelmed by Frost’s newest addition. Kira is such a strong and independent character that will shock and awe fans due to her abundant comparisons to the beloved Cat. I was enticed by this character from the start; rooting for the power and intensity that seemed to be simmering under her cool exterior. True to her talent, Frost combines these amazing characters offering an addictive and spell binding love story that readers will crave. As part of the Night Huntress World spin off series this should be the only novel highlighting this couple, but I am anxious for their appearances in novels to come. Frost will knock readers socks of yet again with this action packed and thrilling adventure. ”Book Whisperer wrote this review Tuesday, July 3, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful?
