The Wakefields are homeless due to an earthquake. The earthquake that killed lots of people, and destroyed lots of houses and buildings. Which make the Wakefields moved in with the Fowlers, which make the house crowded. Jessica Wakefield enjoys living with fellow cheerleader Lila, but her twin sister Elizabeth is unhappy with the arrangement. In addition, students from El Carro High School have to finish the year at Sweet Valley High and Big Mesa due to the damage of the earthquake. This creates some interesting rivalries: Melissa, former cheerleading captain at El Carro, vows to take on SVH captain Jessica; and Will Simmons, quarterback on El Carro's football team, is appointed captain when SVH's quarterback quits. The tension between Elizabeth Wakefield is, she can't stop thinking about Conner McDermott, a guy from El Carro high who is total bad news--and who hardly even notices her. She misses study dates, can't speak in class and takes hours to get ready for school--completely unlike herself. And things heat up when Will Simmons, while dating Melissa, goes out with Jessica.
