Awesome, approachable intro into feminist theory. Also pretty practical. I liked it because it was critical of the white feminist movement and really focused on the intersection of power hierarchies.

Hooks writes, at least in this book, in an odd, calculated jargon that is off-putting. She keeps calling for a sea change in feminism but doesn't ever make concrete suggestions what form that change should take.

This is an excellent history of feminism especially in regards issues of race and class. It is also visionary. I found it easy to read & enjoyable & as someone who has only studied feminism in a limited fashion, it was new information for me. She succeeds at making it readable for people even if they aren't scholarly.

This book is a thorough history of how the issues of race & class have been ignored by feminism and much much more.
The final chapter on visionary feminism was very good.
This book is written so that it is enjoyable reading for anyone.

Feminism really is for everybody! If you don't know much about feminism and want to learn, this is a great book to start with. I love bell hooks because she makes feminism accessible for all people, while many academic feminists write in such a way that typically only people with advanced degree can read their texts.
