“The mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of Jeanne Popyncourt's mother as well as their abrupt departure from France make this fictional twist on the real Jeanne Popyncourt's life a real page turner. While not completely accurate with history during that period of time, it works since little is known of Mistress Popyncourt. This story revolves around her heartfelt desire to know her family background and the circumstances involving her mother's death. It truly makes a good read. While certain parts are relatively predictable (don't want to include any spoilers here) I really enjoyed this book all around. It has romance, mystery, history, and likable characters. I could really sympathize with Jeanne and her isolation from others at times. I will definitely be picking up another novel from Kate Emerson in the future!”
