This is a truly excellent book designed to be used with the free BlueJ educational IDE (integrated development environment). If you are a novice and wish to learn programming, you can pretty much do it with this book and BlueJ. Of course, you will get more out of it if you can take a class that uses the book as the text.

Once you feel comfortable with BlueJ, you can graduate to the special Netbeans IDE BlueJ edition, a full-blown professional development environment especially...
