Claire Prescott steps in to take her sister Missy's place at a Jane Austen seminar when Missy is unable to make the trip from Kansas City. Claire is not an expert on Jane Austen and does not understand why Mr. Darcy is such a romantic icon. While she is in Oxford, she befriends an old woman named Harriet, who claims to have the manuscript for the original, unpublished draft of Pride and Prejudice. This manuscript is a highly-guarded secret, and Claire must decide what to do with this information.
