Characters/People edit see section history

  • Hannah Swensen: Has curly red hair and is the owner of the Cookie Jar, a bakery-coffee shop. She's about 30 - 33 years old. An amateur sleuth who is assisted by her two sisters, Andrea and Michelle, and her boyfriends, Mike, a detective, and Norman, a dentist.
  • Norman Rhodes: One of Hannah's boyfriends; a dentist. In other books he is described as older than her (about 15 years, I think). is Lake Eden's kind, humorous, and fun to be around dentist at the Rhodes Dental Clinic, following in his father's own career footsteps. Norman is in his early forties, and probably not considered as attractive when compared to Detective Mike Kingston. Norman's mother is Carrie Rhodes, one of Hannah's mother Delores's closest friends, and together, Carrie and Delores rambunctiously play matchmaker for Norman and Hannah. But what Hannah loves about Norman is his comfortableness, and how approachable he is when Hannah needs to talk to him. Hannah thinks of him as a big cuddly teddy bear. Norman is also often very eager to help Hannah out in an investigation, and he is immensely protective over her. Norman's biggest hobby---which has sometimes proven quite useful in Hannah's murder sleuthing---is taking photographs, and developing the negatives in his own darkroom.
  • Andrea Todd: Hannah's sister, a real estate agent. Is described as fashionable and a good-looking blonde. Helps Hannah with her investigations. Andrea got married right out of high school to Bill, who is now the sheriff. They have two kids, Tracey (approximately five or six years old) and baby Bethany (called Bethie). Andrea must be in her early or mid 20's.
  • Lisa: Hannah's business partner in the Cookie Jar. Is married to Herb Beeseman, a traffic cop. She's young (around 20 or a few years older) and she was offered a college scholarship but stayed home to take care of her dad who has early-onset Alzheimer's. At the beginning of the series she was Hannah's sole employee, but later became her business partner since she has great business ideas. She loves to dramatise and narrate the story of how Hannah finds each of the bodies, with their loyal customers.
  • Mike Kingston: Hannah's other boyfriend, a detective. He doesn't like her interfering in his murder investigations but finds that her advice is invaluable and lately has been asking for her input. He is sometimes known as a womanizer, and Hannah often finds herself questioning is relationships with other women.
  • Michelle: Hannah's other sister who is still in college and lately has been visiting and staying with her. She is involved in the drama of the Professor's death and his past life.
  • Delores: Hannah's mother. Good looking and Andrea gets her looks from her. She runs an antique store with Carrie, Norman's mother.
  • Sherri Connors: Not a series character; is only in this book. Is a dancer with her twin.
  • Stephanie Bascomb: The mayor's wife.
  • Tracey Todd: is Hannah's adorable blonde six-year-old niece; Tracey is Andrea and Bill's first daughter, the second being baby Bethany. Tracey is known all around Lake Eden for her immense cuteness---her pretty blonde hair and blue eyes already show early signs of her mother Andrea's beauty---amazing intelligence for a child her age, and her skills as a child actress. Tracey is very aware of what is going on between the adults around her and can instinctively tell when Hannah is pondering investigating another murder.
  • Perry: Sherri's twin.
  • Moishe: Hannah's cat. He doesn't like Delores and gets bothered right before Delores calls or arrives in person at Hannah's condo. He launches himself at Hannah when she comes home.
  • Marge: Herb's mother. Shares a house with Lisa's dad and helps take care of him.
  • Dillon: Herb's dog. A nice friendly dog who is in training to work with the police.
  • Bradford Ramsey: The murder victim in this book! Hannah's old boyfriend from college. Collected girlfriends.
