There's no question that Mailer is a genius. And after reading this book, I know there's no question that he's also a shamelessly conceited self-promoter. I read this book because it won the Pulitzer prize. I no longer put any stock in a book winning the Pulitzer prize. Need I say more? Actually, the book is worthwhile in that Mailer presents this true account of a huge march to protest the Vietnam war in novel form (think In Cold Blood).
