Flaubert is a marvel. Don't think of this mid 19th century novel as a tough go, it's a very modern book. The self-serving and ambitious citizens of revolutionary 1848 France are all morally flawed, save one. Even the protagonist is a thorough cad. It's the best mini-series ever!
